No restorative dentistry case is too challenging for our crew. Whether it’s a deep cavity, a chipped or cracked tooth, or one that’s gone missing, our team provides innovative, long-lasting solutions to help every little smile shine bright like the Carolina sun.

Depending on your child’s needs, we offer a full range of restorative dentistry services to keep their oral health sailing smoothly. Explore our options below:

Dental Fillings

Just like patching a tiny ding in a favorite surfboard, a dental filling helps your child’s tooth regain its normal shape and function. At Wilmington Pediatric Dentistry, we use high-quality materials that are safe, non-toxic and built to last—so their smile stays strong against life’s little waves.

Dr. Skip, Dr. Stephanie or Dr. Katie will carefully remove the decay from the tooth before cleaning and drying the area. Then, our pediatric dentist will fill in the space with a tooth-colored filling that blends seamlessly with their natural smile.

This quick and easy visit at our Wilmington office is smooth sailing from start to finish—and with great brushing, flossing and regular checkups, your child’s filling can last for years to come!

Dental Crowns

At Wilmington Pediatric Dentistry, we strive to use a minimally invasive approach to restorative dentistry whenever possible—preserving as much of your child’s natural tooth structure as we can. When a tooth becomes damaged or decayed, their pediatric dentist may recommend a dental crown to help bring their smile back to calm waters.

Dental crowns are tooth-shaped caps that fit snugly over the entire tooth, restoring both strength and appearance. Using state-of-the-art technology, advanced materials and gentle precision, Dr. Skip, Dr. Stephanie and Dr. Katie create traditional stainless steel crowns or white crowns designed to fit your child’s unique smile—like a perfectly tailored sail.

The result is a strong, healthy tooth that blends seamlessly with the rest of their smile, helping your child chew comfortably, speak clearly and enjoy all the sunny days ahead with confidence.

Pulpotomy & Pulpectomy

If your little sailor gets a big cavity, the tissue inside their tooth—called the pulp—can occasionally become damaged or infected. When this happens, Dr. Skip, Dr. Stephanie or Dr. Katie may recommend either a pulpotomy or a pulpectomy to help calm the storm and protect your child’s developing smile.

  • Pulpotomy — This is recommended when only a portion of the pulp is affected. Your child’s dentist will gently remove the damaged portion, preserving the healthy part of the tooth. Typically, a small stainless steel crown is placed over the tooth to keep it protected and strong.
  • Pulpectomy — This is recommended when all of the pulp is damaged or infected. In this case, your child’s dentist will use this restorative dentistry procedure to remove the affected tissue completely and fill the area with a special medicated material to keep the surrounding space healthy, allowing your child’s permanent tooth to grow strong and steady—ready to chart its course.

Extractions & Space Maintainers

When a baby tooth reaches a certain level of damage, your child’s pediatric dentist may recommend a restorative dentistry procedure called an extraction. If a tooth has extensive decay or trauma, the neighboring baby teeth are at risk of infection spreading, and sometimes, that infection can even reach the adult teeth waiting just beneath the surface, affecting them before they ever emerge.

After an extraction, the surrounding teeth will naturally begin to drift toward the newly open space. While it may look like open waters, that space is actually essential for the healthy eruption of your child’s adult teeth. To keep everything on course, your child’s pediatric dentist will place a space maintainer—a small, custom restorative dentistry device that acts like an anchor, holding nearby teeth in place and preserving the perfect spot for the new tooth to grow strong and steady.

SOAN Intraosseous Anesthesia

If your little sailor is particularly anxious about their restorative dentistry procedure, one option we offer to help them stay comfortable during treatment is SOAN Intraosseous Anesthesia—a gentle, high-tech way to deliver numbing medication directly where it’s needed. This advanced system allows our pediatric dentists to precisely target a single tooth, reducing the amount of overall numbness your child feels in their lips, cheeks and tongue. With its quiet, pen-like design and smooth delivery, SOAN helps ensure that your child’s visit stays calm, easy and as breezy as a day by the coast.
